Did you know that many conditions in the body can be connected to what is happening in the mouth?
The mouth is not separate from the rest of the body.
A healthy balance in the mouth is part of maintaining balance throughout the body.
Changes in the mouth can sometimes reflect what is happening elsewhere in the body, while oral conditions can also influence health beyond the mouth.
Oral health and general health are connected in many ways.
The idea behind Your Mouth Your Health is to explore these connections and help people see the mouth from a wider perspective
— not only as teeth and gums, but as an important part of our overall health and wellbeing.
With more than 25 years of experience as a Registered Dental Hygienist (RDH), I bring together professional knowledge, prevention and a whole-person perspective to explore what the mouth may tell us about our health — and what our health may tell us about the mouth.
Because understanding your mouth is not only about protecting your teeth.
It is about understanding a part of you.
The mouth can give us clues that go far beyond teeth and gums.

PREVENTION & AWARENESS

Sometimes the first step towards better health is simply becoming more curious.
Why do I wake up with a dry mouth?
Why does my child sleep with an open mouth?
Why do my gums suddenly bleed?
Why am I grinding or clenching my teeth?
Why does my mouth change during different stages of life?
These questions may seem to be only about the mouth — but sometimes there is more to explore.
Your Mouth Your Health brings together knowledge, questions and different perspectives to help us explore the connections between the mouth and the rest of the body. What is your mouth telling you?

Small everyday habits can have a bigger role than we realise.
Health is shaped by many things — how we eat, sleep, breathe, move, recover and care for ourselves.
The mouth is part of that everyday picture too.
The way we care for our teeth and gums, how we breathe, chew and swallow, what we eat and drink, and the habits we develop throughout life can all contribute to our health and wellbeing.
Your Mouth Your Health encourages us to become curious about these everyday connections — and to recognise that caring for our health doesn't begin and end at the bathroom mirror.
Sometimes, small changes in awareness can be the beginning of healthier choices for life.

I felt a pressure in my head, didn’t know what it was until I got that dental cleaning that my mouth really needed.
Now – just after one session, I feel so relieved.
The clinic and the staff is so unique. You wouldn’t relate it to a dental clinic. There is no disinfection smell, which really trigger my fear.
“I was afraid of that deep scaling and throughout dental cleaning. I have heard a lot about it, and also reading about how much pain I should expect during the treatment.
Connie’s hands are amazing. I didn’t feel a thing.
If I was worried, during the treatment, she was ready to stop and listen. My fear has gone.”
“I felt that I was in such good hands. From the beginning to the end, I felt so relieved finally to have found someone who listen to my needs.
Also the clinics environments, makes you feel comfortable right the way.”
I was explained about my mouth situation and my treatment needs, and possibilities, and together we found my unique treatment plan.
“I was afraid before – now I am falling asleep in the chair.”
